Back again

September 02, 2005

All good things come to an end and so did my vacation. After relaxing down in sunny Croatia, I’m now back keen on creating new stuff, writing tutorials etc. Hope I can answer your mails as soon as possible.

A List Apart

Well some interesting things happend while I was away: Most siginificant of course the complete redesign of A List Apart, one of my favorit web sites - even though new articles were somewhat rare within the last couple of months. Anyway, the new design is really strikingCongratulations Jason — excellent work. Hopefully we will see a bunch of new articles in the near future.

Desk

Furthermore I stumbled upon a great design study on creativebits. Afterglow presents his idea of how an improved finder could look like. Actually it’s a combination of the desktop, the finder and the dock, that provides the functionality to create projects, to access your last queries and to display the contents of the clipboard-

The blue “Function Bar” on the right hand side contains context sensitive functions that changes according to whether the selected item was a folder, image, mp3 etc. Well actually quite similar to the task pane of Windows XP or Vista.

Design in Flight

Due to popular demand, Design-in-flight is back — in a new online format, including some new featues such as a update feed (RSS) and commenting. Great.

New Server

And last but not least I’m glad to tell you that Bartelme Design is now hosted on a new server so you should notice a notable speed pump. By the way I had to make changes to the DNS server, which is the reason why I wasn’t able to post earlier. Anyway, have a great day, Wolfgang.

Nice the new Finder looks cool!

“After relaxing down in sunny Croatia…” I laughed when I read that — not something I have ever heard anyone say here in the US.

Great to see you back. Hope you enjoyed your vacation, and yes, Croatia is a great place for a sunny holiday. Cant wait for some new articles.

Nik

Where in Croatia were you? I’m usually on Cres (weekend house, yay!) but I hear more and more people complaining that it’s too expensive. Anyways, hope the weather was ok — it sucked here in Innsbruck — and you enjoyed yourself!

Well I was on Rab — a small island which is locate in the Kvarner Bay of Adriatic Sea in the northern part of Croatia. The weather was nearly perfect. Concerning cost: even though prices have been increased extremely within the last couple of years, it is still notable cheaper than in Austria.

Wolfgang

Welcome back. On whitch hoster did you switch?

Arne

Well it’s actually the same provider than before. They (Austria Webhosting) have upgraded their hard- and software and asked me if I would be interested in switching to the new server. And since there were no additional costs, I agreed.

Wolfgang

Glad to see you back. Next year, try southern islands, i recommend Korcula.

Which comment do you mean?

Wolfgang

Well I think I found a bug/exploit in your site. I was the first to leave a comment on this article before this article was posted to the public. I guess this site has some sort of approval system where you work on an article before posting it?

Jordan

Oh, I think you made the comment just before the DNS switch. This might be the reason, why you comment is not listed. I will have a look if I can restore it.

Wolfgang

Comment restored :)

Wolfgang

k cheers

The site finder looks neat. BTW ALA must’ve told writers to not submit anything until the new site was launched. But yeah ALA looks very nice and more accessible now with the new launch. CRAWL CRAWL and CRAWL some more !

“After relaxing down in sunny Croatia…” I spent the last week sailing in the Kvarner Bay of Adriatic Sea — as you did before, I can say the weather was nearly perfect: Sunny, great bays for swimming, but it could’ve been a little more windy, we had to use the yacht’s motor too much ;-) -----
