Spring Cleaning Part 2
In the first part of “Spring Cleaning” I mentioned that the new layout of Bartelme Design is still in progress. And well… obviously I continued to tweak and polish minor and major parts of the site. So here is the result…
A couple of days back I looked at my site and thought: “well, actually there is still something missing”. And after a while I realized that this “something” was the lack of green color. So I decided to adapt the color scheme and finally I ended up with a design inspired by the Fresh theme I used one or two years ago.
So will this be the final design? Well I’m afraid to tell but I’m not completely satisfied yet. I still have to try the one or the other thing, twist and turn things around, realign etc. — so expect further changes within the next couple of days. It’s definetely a step in the right direction, compared to what you’ve done so war with the spring cleaning! It wasn’t bad at all, but it was too “web2.0”ish for me ;-)

Ja, das ist auf jedenfall ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Das Surfen auf deiner Page macht mir wirklich Spaß. Das neue Layout ist einfach genial, sowie es das Fresh Theme gewesen ist. Nur den Hintergrund bei den RSS-Feeds finde ich nicht so gut, vielleicht änderst du die Transparenz ein bisschen, dass der Hintergrund nicht ganz so leuchtet.

Previous version was too light for me but now your site looks much better. Personally I think that You should tweak comments and sidenotes column to make it more contrast.

I like it! It’s very summery, but perhaps it might be a little too bright for when the fall season comes around. I’m not a huge fan of seasonal themes, but this one just tickles my pickle.

I like the new arrangement you made on the first page. Hehe the top menu has hover effect now, nice :) But I don’t understand why green is so plain, why not a gradient somewhere..

I really wanted to start complaining, as I didn’t see any green anywhere (except for the logo) and the navigation wasn’t working eighter. Then I tried F5 and it worked.
I have to say it really is the best design I have ever seen on bartelme.at and it may be even one of the best designs I hav ever seen on the web so far. – I’m stunned.

Die Suchergebnisse finde ich nun auch besser. Allerdings stört mich (vielleicht auch dich? :)) eine Kleinigkeit. Die weiße Rundung der ausgewählten Kategorie oben im Menü passt nicht so ganz zum darunterliegenden Div der Suchergebnisse. g

The brighter colors look nice. I’d make the author comments a different color/style, too — maybe flip them horizontally? Great work so far!

Been following your site for a while and like the redesign exercise. I also noticed that when I browse away and come back, your pages remember my last vertical page position. Very nifty! Would you mind letting us in on how that’s done?

Wow ! This issue is completly stunning ! I’m impressed ! So clean, so lightfull ! You’ve done such a great work for this second spring cleaning ! Congrats ! I think it just left a toggle function on the bottom, to hide Recent Journal Entries or other things, like in the former version ;)

@Frenetik: of course there will be a “toggle infoarea” functionality — it’s already on my tasklist. Other things I’d like to do: improve the look and feel of the search, improve loading times and styling the forum. Actually the overview of the forum is still… well let’s call it simple, a bit too simple ;)

wenn ich einen kleinen Vorschlag machen darf: Das grüne Highlight hinter den Feeds würde ich wieder rausnehmen. Ich finde das steuert die Aufmerksamkeit auf der Startseite nicht ganz optimal, da weiss man gar nicht wo man hingucken soll.
Ansonsten ist diese Version auf jeden fall cooler als die davor!

Constantly changing I see. Interesting new look and choice of colors. I’ll have to be honest and say that I preferred the last look your were flying but this one does have its upsides — namely, higher constrast between content.

Personally, I would change the green background of the “Available Feeds”. Another thing: may be keep a white left and right border all over your pages (e.g. white border left of the blue box (that is, the excerpt of the last topic), right of the green box (that is, the Available Feeds)). Finally, a better contrast between content and sidenotes would do good. I think…
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Ja, das sieht viel besser aus, als der erste “Versuch”. Auch wenn dieser nicht schlecht war, passte dieser einfach nicht zu dir. Anders ist es bei diesem. Auch ohne das Bartelme-Logo würde ich jetzt erkennen, dass es sich um deine Seite handelt.

Hm, irgendwie wird der Link nicht richtig dargestellt. Auf jeden Fall kommt es dem fast gewordenem Quark Logo “ziemlich” nahe und selbst Quark hatte sich ja da ganz nett beim Scottish Arts Council bedient, was ja letztlich zum Ausschluß und zu einer Neuerarbeitung des Quark Logos führte. Ich meine alles war schon einmal da, klar, aber fast 1:1?

Ich wollte nur kurz anmerken dass ich es sehr gut finde, dass Sie der normalen Fontgröße treu bleiben. Ich kann nichts weniger ab als Websites mit 8 px Mikroschrift, weil das ja so unheimlich trendy ist. Solche Seiten haben meist auch keinen Inhalt, deshalb vielleicht die kleine Schrift.

Ich finde kleine Schriften auch ok, aber man sollte auch an die etwas älteren unter uns denken. Eventuell sogar direkt auf der Webseite eine Funktion bereitstellen um die Schriftgröße zu ändern. Nicht jeder kennt sich so gut aus und weiß, dass man die Schriftgröe auch im Browser ändern kann. :)
