Vacation

August 17, 2005

Let me take the chance to thank you once again for all your great feedback on the new layout of Bartelme Design, for your tips, bug reports and suggestions. It’s always great to see how much people really care about this site, its design and its content.

Gravatars enabled

By the way some of you mentioned that it would be a good idea to add gravatar support. And since I’m convinced that those little pics really have a surplus value — and honestly also because implementation is quite simple :) — I’m glad to tell you that gravatars are now enabled.

If you don’t have an account, just head for Gravatar.com and create one for free. If you don’t want to create one: Nerer mind. It’s not required to join our discussions :)

Vacation

Well and secondly I would just like to tell you that I’m on vacation from tomorrow until the 27th of August. And since I won’t have any internet connection I will not be able to answer your mails, comments or forum entries. Cheers, Wolfgang.

Have a wicked vacation Wolfgang! I love the site and the new design is just sweet, you are an inspiration. Have you deliberately not worried with IE5 on the MAC?

dave

Well honestly I really didn’t care much about IE/Mac, since — as far as I can tell from my server stats — it is more or less not used by my visitors. And secondly it is no longer part of the default installation of Mac OS Tiger. Of course this is no excuse, so I will have a look at it as soon as I’m back. For the time being I hope it is acceptable that the site renders acceptable in Safari, Firefox, Opera, IE6, Omniweb, Camino etc.

Wolfgang

sorry, i didnt mean to offend. I have just been deliberating over the need to support IE Mac, i only checked your site on IE as i was going through css beauty & style gala galleries to see how many render well in that unsupported and frankly, pain in the backside browser. Quite a few dont seem too bothered about IE/mac Again, sorry if i caused offense!

dave

No problem — you didn’t offend me at all ;)

Wolfgang

Wolfgang

Wow nice work. sieht edel aus.

Tom

Have a nice trip, Wolfgang! By the way, what an amazing job you did with this site, it is really great. Is the live Search AJAX-driven? Best regards, Fernando

Fernando Lucas

Wolfgang, I might be mistaken but setting the min-height:X as height:X should do the job for IE. Of course the height-rule should be served for IE only: * html #commentname {height:X;} Enjoy your vacation!

Sebastian Schmieg

Thanks Sebastian. You were absolutely right. Even short comments should now be displayed correctly in IE.

Wolfgang

I love the new layout, infact i came to your site for inspiration and your new look has inspired me further — thank you! keep up the great work! Gav

Very nice job on the new design Wolfgang! Also nice job on the conversion of the asp to php. Will you be releasing the script or are you keeping it uniquely? Anyway, just thought I should let you know about an error i came accross (using IE 6 — see link to screenshot below). Link Ofcourse this error doesn’t display in Firefox (its just a silly IE fault which shouldn’t be too hard to fix). Keep up the great work! Sam Granger

Have a great time! the design is really nice btw. Oh, and you should really use friendly url’s, google it.

Jérôme Verzier

Julian Schrader

Great design again :D And the gravatar integration is so sweeeet :p

I’m curious if you’d share a little bit about how you built this site. For example — Do you first lay it out in photoshop? What sort of tools do you use? How do you make the search at the top look like Apple Spotlight search in Safari? Looks great, thanks

Ted

Ted, for the Spotlight-like search field, read this entry from here: Link

Mmmm, this is really nice. I’m currently ‘playing’ with my sites design and this is very humbling … :-D
